Town of Antigonish skateboarding bylaw
Town of Antigonish Councillor Diane Roberts wants to re-introduce a less stringent version of last summer's controversial skateboarding bylaw. Details will follow when available.
History: In July of 2004, the Town introduced a new skateboarding bylaw (because the former bylaw required automatic seizure of skateboards, which in a court challenge was found to violate the Youth Criminal Justice Act). The new bylaw would have restricted skateboarding in almost the entire Town, including all of the St. FX campus, and would have carried hefty penalties--fines up to $500 or up to ten days in jail.
As a result of widespread objection, Town Council put the proposed bylaw on hold, and Ms. Roberts stated that she would like to give youth the opportunity to work with the Town's Police & License Committee on the bylaw. (The Casket, Sept. 22, 2004)

--Note that Halifax doesn't have a skateboarding bylaw. Instead, they rely on two things: common sense and the Motor Vehicle Act.
