Effect a skatepark is likely to have on property values -2

Neither the County nor AHSA was prepared for a question about the effect a skatepark would have on neighbouring property values. (This concern was not on the list given to AHSA before the meeting.) Since the meeting, AHSA found material in The Urban Grind – Skateparks, Neighborhood Perceptions and Planning Realities, a study done in Portland, Oregon. Read more here
Furthermore, AHSA has been in touch with two real estate agents in both Saltspring and Tofino, British Columbia, communities with skateparks in residential areas; both realtors said that they believe that the skatepark had no effect on property values.

Also, AHSA has been in touch with the Appraisal Institute of Canada, who recommends that a study be done by a licensed appraiser. There are four licensed appraisers in the area, listed on the Nova Scotia Real Estate Appraisal Association website
