The Commons Park in Halifax is the location for a weekend of non-stop thrills, and the field is wide open for guys and girls to be nationally ranked among the best in Canadian extreme sports. June 6th-8th is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for as the Canadian Freestyle Challenge hosts three qualifying rounds, with the national championship as the ultimate prize.
The Halifax event gives open class competitors a chance to compete for national champ in freestyle motocross, BMX, and skateboarding qualifying events. “It’s a first in Canadian history of organized action sport,” says a very excited Tim Hood, organizer. “It’s a sanctioned event under the Canadian Freestyle Challenge, that hasn’t been done at this level. It’s the first of three qualifying events nation- wide throughout the summer months. It (Halifax tournament) is a three-day event. It starts on Friday and is for the younger competitors, ages 10 to 14, with games, prizes, music and much more. Saturday is when the real competition begins with amateur and open class action.
Sunday is going to be the freestyle motocross qualifying event at the Halifax Forum.”
Plans are to make this an annual event, and with organizing efforts getting underway in November of 2007 to make this a first-class competition, nothing has been left to chance. “We have a few guys that are coming as far as Ontario for the FMX comp, some originally from Halifax now competing in the states. They’re all going to compete in the Halifax event. The first event in Halifax is a qualifier, so the top athletes from the competition will get an all-expenses paid trip to the finals at the championship event.”
This will be a summer to remember as hopefuls compete in the nation’s best extreme sports tournament. In addition to a shot at qualifying to become Canada’s freestyle champion, there are also Canadian Freestyle Challenge contracts for a Canadian tour up for grabs. That means non-stop action for competitors, and fans who love to cheer them on! From novice to open the ultimate challenge awaits in Canada’s premier extreme sports league. Aside from the open class, all categories will knuckle down to compete not only for prizes, but also a rank in their respective division.
In the open category, finalists will compete for a prize pool with the top three in this class continuing on to the finals scheduled for August where they’ll try for the title of national champ.
The Halifax show is the perfect opportunity to prove yourself after those endless hours of practice and dazzle the fans with your hard earned skills. Those interested in competing in any of the categories can register by calling 506.206.1728, then get ready to show off your skills and crush the competition.
Hurry though, as space is limited.
Admission for the three-day event is only $30.00, while registration for the skateboarding and BMX is $15.00, and freestyle motocross is $40.00. Those interested in joining the CFC team are asked to contact them at info@canadianfreestylechallenge.com.
The Canadian Freestyle Challenge promises to be the best show in town no matter what side of the track you’re on.
