In yearly addresses, Mayor and Warden mention skatepark

Jan 14, 2009
Antigonish Highland Skateboarding Association is encouraged that Town of Antigonish Mayor Carl Chisholm mentioned a location (albeit undisclosed) for our skatepark, earlier this week at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting.

"Two projects that have been on the town’s books for some time are a new home for the Antigonish library, as well as a skate park. Chisholm said they are currently in negotiations for properties for each project.
...
During his campaign, Chisholm said it was “surprisingly high” how many people were looking to see a permanent home for a skate park in Antigonish.

“We are negotiating a piece of property right now, and we should know within a month if that’s going to go through. If that piece of property doesn’t go through, we’re back to square one – we’ve go to go looking again.”

The skate park isn’t top priority, he said, but it’s also not on the bottom of the priority list.

“We’re hoping to move forward with it and get a location for it in the near future.”

AHSA continues to work with Municipal Leaders to secure a site for our future skatepark.

We are encouraged that both Town of Antigonish Mayor Carl Chisholm and County Warden Herb Delorey mentioned a skatepark in their yearly addresses.

"Priorities between the two municipalities include a new library and a skateboard park." --Herb Delorey, Warden says co-operation is crucial, The Casket, Dec 30, 2008

...

"During his campaign, [Town of Antigonish Mayor Carl] Chisholm promised Antigonish would find a place for a skateboard park and a new library.

“There’s certainly nothing definite yet,” Chisholm said.

Progress is being made, he added, and he expects the issues to be solved in early 2009."

Prior to the municipal elections on Oct 18, 2008, several municipal as well as school board candidates spoke of the importance of a skatepark. Read what was said

AHSA would like to thank our Municipal Leaders for their continuing efforts to choose a site for our future skatepark. We would also like to thank the Community for their ongoing support and encouragement. We also appreciate our many Supporters and Volunteers who have dedicated hours upon hours with various fundraisers and projects over the past six + years.
